Ultrasound equipment is rapidly moving from the typical hospital room to small clinics, doctors' offices, and patients' homes as a low-cost, non-invasive diagnostic tool. Meanwhile, customers are demanding higher levels of performance and more affordable solutions. Today, ultrasound systems must be smaller and provide greater image clarity as testing and diagnosis have become more necessary, more immediate, and more accurate. The solution is the MAX2082, a complete, low-power ultrasound transceiver solution. It integrates eight channels of 200V Level 3 pushbuttons and T/R switches, an octal ADC, an octal LNA, and an octal VGA, CW mixers, anti-aliasing filters, and coupling capacitors into a small package requiring less than 64.5 cm². This is 40% less space than conventional solutions and is especially beneficial for portable systems. Traditional designs include more than nine components in the T/R switch alone, for up to 128 channels each, so the MAX2082 replaces thousands of discrete components. Power supply noise and switching noise are minimized in the MAX2082 for superior picture quality.
