Microchip has collaborated directly with several leading sensor manufacturers and sensor fusion specialists to create this solution, which accelerates time to market without requiring in-depth sensor fusion expertise. The SSC7102 is extremely efficient. It consumes approximately 4 mA while running complex sensor fusion algorithms, thus extending battery life in Windows® 8.1 tablets, laptops, and smartphones.
Sensors can now be added to virtually anything thanks to their low cost and small size. IHS iSuppli forecasts that more than 6 billion motion sensors will be incorporated into mobile devices and tablets in 2016. As sensors become more prevalent, system requirements range from simple monitoring to providing complex information about our environment and activities. Data from multiple sensors, measuring motion using accelerometers, magnetometers, and gyroscopes, as well as environmental factors such as light, temperature, humidity, and pressure, must be integrated or “fused” into the system. Microchip’s low-power SSC7102 sensor hub executes these complex sensor fusion algorithms while providing maximum flexibility in an easy-to-deploy solution.
In developing the SSC7102, Microchip collaborated with market-leading companies such as Bosch and Movea to deliver an easy-to-use, Windows 8.1-certified HID over I2C™ solution with exceptionally low power consumption.
Microchip's SSC7102 sensor hub comes in a 6 mm x 6 mm BGA package. Samples are available now, and volume production is expected by the end of this quarter.
