CIdecontrolThe IRS2538DS, supplied in a compact SO8 package, uses a novel control method to achieve a high power factor with ultra-low THD, eliminating the need for a power factor correction (PFC) stage and an input electrolytic capacitor. The new IC integrates a 600V half-bridge control circuit, self-lift MOSFETs, and a comprehensive set of protection features to further reduce the number of components and the footprint on the printed circuit board, while also increasing reliability.

The IRS2538DS, which provides all the advantages of an electronic ballast solution, is highly efficient, compact, lightweight, and flicker-free. It also offers excellent reliability and such a cost-effective price that it is an affordable and more environmentally friendly alternative to existing options.
The IRS2538DS also offers lamp preheating, start-up, and run modes, closed-loop lamp current control, a fixed preheating time (2s typical), adaptive dead time (0.5µs to 1.5µs typical), auto-restart upon lamp connection, very low current draw during startup (125µA), and internal 15.6V to Vcc Zener diode latching.
