With their miniature packages, ROHM's new BUxxJA2MNVX-C series comprises the smallest LDO regulators on the market for the automotive industry, while the BD7xxLx series offers unmatched quiescent current. Customers can now choose from multiple voltage and current options, as well as different packages, to precisely meet their application requirements, whether in the body, powertrain, infotainment, or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Both ranges are based on ROHM's vertically integrated production system and proprietary analog design, process, and packaging technologies to achieve high efficiency in a compact form factor, while also adding design flexibility and reliability.
Over the past few years, automotive power ICs have continued to increase in sophistication and functionality, along with a growing need to expand the offering to cover a wide range of application features and requirements – such as package type and output current – rather than focusing solely on a single solution. The BD7xxLx and BD4xxMx series are optimized for all battery-connected applications requiring extremely low quiescent current. Thanks to their wide input voltage range (up to 50V peak) and broad operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, this family is a perfect solution for automotive body, power unit, and infotainment systems. The BD7xxLx range comprises eight models, with optional output voltages of 3.3V and 5V, output currents from 200mA to 500mA, and three standard package types.
The proliferation of accident prevention measures and automated driving systems demands advanced safety systems that offer enhanced performance. This requires a greater number of sensors, camera modules, and other components, but at the same time, there is a need to reduce the size of the devices to improve design flexibility and decrease vehicle weight. However, designing power ICs that offer high reliability in a compact format has proven challenging. Until now, in harsh environments such as automotive systems, characterized by high noise, temperature, and vibration levels, the smallest package capable of providing the necessary level of reliability has been 1.5 mm². The new BUxxJA2MNVX-C series, with AEC-Q100 approval, provides the reliability demanded by the automotive industry in an ultra-compact 1 mm² package, thus reducing the mounting surface area by 55% compared to existing products. At the same time, standby current consumption (35µA) and load regulation characteristics (65mV load fluctuation) are halved, thus contributing to smaller, higher-performing automotive safety modules. Unlike conventional products that require a minimum external capacitance of 1.0µF to prevent oscillations, these new regulators accept smaller external capacitors, starting from 0.22µF, enabling further miniaturization.
Key features of the BD4xxMx/BD7xxLx series
* Ultra-low quiescent current LDO regulators
The trend towards greater vehicle computerization has increased the number of microcontrollers required; furthermore, reduced fuel consumption demands lower power consumption per IC to improve system energy efficiency. The BD7xxLx series is based on ROHM's proven analog design technology and reduces no-load current consumption to an unparalleled 6µA.
* Compatibility with ceramic capacitors reduces mounting surface and costs.
Its optimized design ensures a stable output voltage without fluctuations with an external capacitance of only 1-10uF, eliminating the need for larger external capacitors and thus minimizing mounting surface and costs.
* Various package types for broad compatibility
The circuitry redesign has allowed for a reduction in the number of blocks and the new chip layout allows for 3 package types (TO252-3, SOT223-4F and HSOP-J8), from robust power packages for harsh environments to compact models for high-density applications.

Key features of the BUxxJA2MNVX-C series
* The smallest LDO regulators on the market (1mm²) for the automotive industry.
ROHM has leveraged its world-class analog design, process, and packaging technologies to develop the smallest LDO regulators in the automotive industry, achieving all the necessary features in a 1mm² footprint, which is 55% smaller than conventional 1.5mm² products. Furthermore, AEC-Q100 approval provides the high level of reliability required by automotive applications.
* Achieves both low current consumption and excellent response characteristics.
The BUxxJA2MNVX-C series uses original circuit technology to achieve an ideal balance between response characteristics (65mV load variation) and current consumption (35uA, half that of conventional products).
* Stable operation with an external capacitor starting at 0.22uF.
Power ICs require an external capacitor to compensate for output fluctuations/oscillations caused by input variations. Unlike conventional solutions that require 1.0uF, ROHM's new IC ensures a stable output voltage with a 0.22uF capacitor, allowing the use of smaller capacitors and thus contributing to a smaller overall size.
* Input/Output Specifications
- Input Voltage 1.7V to 6.0V
- Output Voltage 1.0V to 3.4V
- Output Current up to 200mA
* Applications:
Sensors, cameras and radar for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), video recorders and other automotive systems that require further miniaturization.
