This is the first time LED drivers have been available in this advantageous package. The new lead-free devices join Nexperia's extensive range of LED drivers in leaded packages, offering equivalent performance while reducing PCB footprint by up to 90% compared to the SOT223.
With a footprint of just 2x2 mm and a low profile of 0.65 mm, the new DFN2020D-6 LED drivers are available in NPN and PNP configurations. They feature an output current of up to 250 mA (NCR32x type) and a maximum supply voltage of 75 V. Their high thermal power handling capacity is at least equal to that of any other LED driver package.
The use of wettable flanks not only enables the use of AOI techniques, which is especially important for automotive customers, but also improves reliability. Devices with wettable flanks exhibit greater resistance to shear forces and can withstand greater plate bending without cracking than devices without wettable flanks.
According to Frank Matschullat, Product Group Director at Nexperia: “The new DFN2020D packaged components with SWF address the concerns of several sectors – size, performance, robustness – making them a perfect match for many diverse applications in general lighting, household appliances, and automotive. Nexperia is committed to offering the industry’s broadest discrete portfolio in DFN technology, so introducing LED drivers in this robust and space-saving package is a natural step. However, the components are also available in SMD-led types so customers can choose which to use.”.
