Suitable for controlling loads up to 35W, it complements the previously released MLX90411, adding a high-power option to the range.

The MLX90412 operates on a supply voltage ranging from 3.5 V to 32 V and is robust up to 40 V. This makes it well-suited for use in equipment with 12 V and 24 V power supplies, as well as for portable applications with up to seven Li-ion cells (~29 V). Household appliance applications include drain pumps for washing machines and dishwashers, as well as toilet pumps; fans, centrifugal and cross fans in air conditioning units, desktop fans, and pedestal fans; and Li-ion-based applications, including robotic cleaners and robotic lawnmowers.

Multiple motor switching options can be accommodated to meet the need for high torque, low noise, and low vibration. A patented adaptive control algorithm ensures maximum efficiency with minimal reverse current across the entire speed range, regardless of motor inductance or applied lead angle.

Both open-loop and closed-loop speed control are possible, with a wide range of dynamic (PI) settings, for a speed range up to 45,000 e-rpm (electrical RPM). Closed-loop speed control allows for speed tolerances as low as +/- 3%. Combined with low-noise current formation, the MLX90412 offers unprecedented noise performance in this price segment, making it a cost-effective alternative to expensive three-phase solutions in many more complex applications. Furthermore, in pumping applications, the closed loop can also be used for dry-run or dry-run protection to help prevent pumps from operating at excessive speeds, thus preventing high noise levels and premature failures.

The MLX90412 features multiple built-in protections, including locked rotor, over-temperature, over-voltage, short-circuit, and current limiting, as well as a built-in power supply clamp. Like the MLX90411, the MLX90412 is programmable via an I2C interface, and all options are configurable in the onboard EEPROM. The MLX90412 is available in a 3 mm x 3 mm DFN10 package.
