Automation system designers are looking for ways to save board space, increase channel density, and improve the accuracy of voltage and current input monitoring so operators can monitor the system more precisely and reduce system downtime. The MAX22530 offers a 50-fold improvement in monitoring measurement accuracy (from +/- 50 percent to only +/- 1 percent) compared to standard linear optocoupler isolation solutions built with discrete components. It utilizes Maxim's integrated isolation technology, which combines a 12-bit ADC, a DC-DC converter, user-adjustable threshold detection levels, and on-chip diagnostic capabilities. This combination enables 50 times greater stability in current transfer ratio performance to achieve an ultra-stable sensing resistance voltage.
By achieving greater measurement accuracy across all four voltage and current inputs, the MAX22530 enables end users to make better, real-time decisions to improve system performance and increase productivity. This integration also allows for a solution size of 250 mm², which is 40% smaller than the 420 mm² size of the closest competing discrete solution.
The MAX22530 is the latest addition to Maxim's MAXSafe product portfolio. MAXSafe products combine integrated, isolated DC-DC converters and communication lines. They are used to power field circuits that are isolated from the control-side power supply, while also simplifying diagnostics in signal monitoring applications.
Key advantages
- Design simplicity: Integrates five integrated circuits into a 12-bit ADC for simplified system design
- Reduced size: The compact design reduces the solution size by 40 percent and provides 43 percent higher channel density
- Increased accuracy: 50 times greater accuracy
