Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), many of which are now mandatory or will be soon, enhance vehicle safety and improve the driving experience. These features include intelligent collision avoidance braking, GPS navigation, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, lane departure warning, and backup/surround video. While these features receive considerable design attention, managing DC power in electrically aggressive vehicle environments is a less publicized but even more critical challenge for ADAS system designers.
Maxim's array of application-optimized integrated circuits regulates, manages, and protects DC power. These products solve critical problems for ADAS system designers by offering a unique combination of package size, high operating efficiency, low quiescent current, integrated ASIL-B/D electrical protection, and reduced EMI.
The PMIC series that Maxim has launched includes:
• MAX20019 Synchronous Dual Buck Converter: Provides the smallest 3.2 MHz dual buck power supply in a 2 mm × 3 mm size (compared to the closest competing solutions offering a single channel in 2 mm x 2 mm or 3 mm x 3 mm)
• MAX20087 Quad Camera Power Protector - The ASIL-B/D type IC for camera module protection includes an I2C interface to report overvoltage/undervoltage/fault conditions; monitors up to four 600mA coaxial channels and isolates faults from individual camera modules.
• MAX20075 and MAX20076 Buck Converters: Offer the lowest quiescent current in the industry with peak and valley mode options; It provides a high peak efficiency of 91% for always-on applications compared to competing solutions, while featuring a 40V load dump tolerance.
• MAX20014 Triple Output Converter: Features a synchronous amplifier and two synchronous down-converters for smaller, simpler, and lower-cost designs (competitive approaches require two integrated circuits plus discrete components); features a switching frequency of 2.2 MHz and spread spectrum capability to reduce EMI and comes in a small 4mm x 4mm package size.
