The MLX92351 (preprogrammed) and MLX92352 (programmable) are quadrature output devices that accurately determine the speed and direction of rotation in motor systems. The 90° phase shift between the two outputs provides customers with pitch and air gap independence, simplifying magnetic design. The MLX92352 and MLX92351 models add further flexibility by outputting any dual combination of the X, Y, and Z magnetic axes as speed, pulse, or direction. Customers can set independent magnetic thresholds from ±0.5 mT to ±40 mT, achieving industry-leading magnetic accuracy.
Melexis' silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology enables superior performance for these magnetic positioning and switching devices: 15kV HBM ESD, 8kV System ESD, and high EMC robustness. This PCB-free solution saves space and costs. Single-component DC motor indexing designs are easy and simplify processes. The MLX92352 and MLX92351 operate from 2.7V to 60V at a junction temperature of 175°C. The versatility of the MLX92352 stems from its EEPROM programmability and the freedom to independently adjust any of the three axes to any output. Therefore, it is perfectly suited for a wide range of applications: linear speed and direction control (power elevators, power module locks), incremental rotary coding (cadence sensor for eBikes, indexing of fan and pump motors), dual linear position sensing (pistons and levers), and angular position sensing (controls, scroll wheels). It performs all of these functions consistently.
The MLX92351 is supplied pre-programmed, while the MLX92352 offers end-of-line (EoL) programmability to compensate for mechanical tolerances in production modules. The devices are available in VA (no printed circuit board) or industry-standard TSOT (SMD) packages. The automotive version is AEC-Q100 certified and supports ASIL system integration according to ISO 26262.
