By incorporating Melexis' Triaxis® Hall technology, the MLX09423 is designed for linear (absolute linear) displacement up to 30 mm when stray field rejection is required. This is typically only achievable with advanced inductive technology. The MLX90423 is a single-die ASIL C sensor, compliant with ISO 26262, although a dual-die option is also available to support ASIL D system integration. It also inherits the superior capabilities of other members of the series in terms of absolute maximum ratings, electromagnetic compliance (EMC) characteristics, and improved accuracy across the entire thermal range.
The MLX90423 is a monolithic magnetic position processor IC. It consists of a Hall-based magnetic Triaxis® front-end, an analog-to-digital signal conditioner, a DSP for advanced signal processing, and a programmable output stage driver. By detecting the three components of magnetic flux density applied to the ICs (Bx, By, and Bz), the MLX90423 decodes the absolute position of a linearly moving magnet. This allows engineers to monitor applications such as brake rod travel, pedal position, or parking lock actuators, among others.
The MLX90423 provides ratiometric analog output, PWM output, or SENT frames encoded in a secure sensor format. In accordance with ISO 11452-8, it is robust against stray magnetic fields up to 5 mT (4 kA/m).
Like other sensors in the MLX9042x series, the MLX90423 is designed to pass electromagnetic compatibility tests on the first try, thus maintaining efficiency in the design process and cost control. High absolute maximum ratings (AMRs), including reverse polarity, reduce the number of quality failures due to electrical overloads and enable compliance with various OEM requirements.
Melexis MLX9042x devices are designed for operating temperatures up to 160°C.
All MLX9042x devices are AEC-Q100 certified. They are available in SMD packages or SMP-3 PCB-less packages that integrate the sensor and EMC capacitors into a single mold.
"The MLX9042x is a future-proof product that will serve ADAS applications, such as braking. Compared to other linear position sensing solutions, it offers the best value for money," says Karen Stinckens, Global Marketing Director for Position Sensors at Melexis.
Microchip launches PAC1761 and PAC1861 65V power supervisors for 48V systems
The rapid adoption of 48V power architectures in automotive, AI/data centers, networks, and industrial systems to improve efficiency and support higher power levels means that designers need more than just visualizing instantaneous voltage and current conditions.
