Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, adds the MLX90517 to its range of inductive resolver ICs. Through an external compensation algorithm, the MLX90517 guarantees accuracy better than ±0.36° at up to 660,000 e-rpm without requiring IC programming.

The MLX90517 operates in conjunction with a set of PCB-based coils. The configurations can be easily adapted to the number of pole pairs in the motor. Support for both on-shaft (at the end of the shaft) and off-shaft (on the side of the shaft or across the shaft) sensing provides engineers with options for implementing coils that enable reliable and accurate sensing within tight mechanical constraints. The three-phase coil design improves linearity by filtering harmonics, which would not be possible in two-coil systems.

"The MLX90510 and MLX90517 give engineers the freedom to choose between on-chip or off-chip compensation," says Lorenzo Lugani, product manager for inductive sensors at Melexis.

The MLX90517 has been developed as an ASIL C Safety Out-of-Context (SEooC) in accordance with ISO 26262. It supports system integration up to ASIL D. Built-in overvoltage and reverse polarity protection (±24 V on the power supply and ±18 V on the outputs) allows it to withstand the most demanding electrical environments. It is AEC-Q100 rated and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +160°C. This device is supplied in a TSSOP-16 package. Contact Melexis for pricing options and to request samples.
