These devices include highly integrated options such as a voltage regulator, window supervisor timer, battery monitoring output, and a microcontroller. They are also characterized by their high robustness, including electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) levels exceeding 15 kV on the LIN bus and battery voltage pins, thus meeting or exceeding automotive manufacturer requirements such as Version 1.3 of the OEM Hardware Requirements for LIN, CAN and FlexRay Interfaces in Automotive Applications. The voltage regulator integrated into some of the devices has also been specifically designed for automotive environments and can withstand reverse battery state, +43V load dump transients, and dual-battery starting. This robustness enables reliable communication in harsh environments, while the high level of integration reduces cost and complexity while also minimizing space requirements.

The new PIC16F1829LIN SiP incorporates an 8-bit Flash microcontroller, a voltage regulator, and a LIN transceiver, along with peripherals such as a 10-bit A/D converter, comparators, and timers, all in a 20-pin SSOP package. This device joins Microchip's extensive range of 8- and 16-bit PIC® eXtreme Low Power (XLP) microcontrollers that integrate advanced USART peripherals. The advanced USART peripheral facilitates connectivity to transceivers and SBCs at the LIN physical layer. Whether in SiPs or standalone solutions, the sleep currents of Microchip's XLP microcontrollers, starting at 9 nA, make them ideal for battery-powered applications and help reduce power consumption in vehicles.

Microchip provides a wide range of tools, software, reference designs, and information to support development with this LIN catalog, which can be accessed online from its LIN Design Centre at microchip.com/get/STR3. Available LIN tools include the LIN Serial Analyzer (APGDT001); the PICDEM™ CAN-LIN 3 Demo Board (DM163015); the ECAN™/LIN PICtail™ Plus Daughter Board (AC164130); and the PICkit™ 28-Pin LIN Demo Board (DM164130-3). Available reference designs include the Anti-Pinch Power Window Regulator (APGRD002) and the LIN-compatible Passenger Cabin Ambient Lighting Module (APG000027).

Microchip's six new LIN devices are now available for sampling and volume production. The MCP2003A LIN transceiver is available in 8-pin SOIC and DFN packages, while the PIC16F1829LIN SiP is available in a 20-pin SSOP package. The MCP2025 and MCP2021A SBCs, which integrate a LIN transceiver with a voltage regulator, are available in 8-pin SOIC and DFN packages; and the MCP2022A SBC offers the same integration in 14-pin SOIC and TSSOP packages. Finally, the MCP2050 SBC adds a supervisory timer and is available in 14-pin SOIC and 20-pin QFN packages.
