The dsPIC33FJ09GS302 family, comprising five models, is optimized for digital power supply applications with integrated high-speed A/D converters, a wait-state-free signal processing core, and flexible, high-resolution PWM. These integrated peripherals enable digital control loops in less than one microsecond. Other features of this family include integrated analog comparators with programmable hysteresis and rail-to-rail operation, as well as an integrated PMBus™ address selection current source to reduce the number of external components. These new DSCs offer the lowest power dissipation among the GS family models and are the first available in a 20-pin SSOP package and the even smaller 36-pin VTLA package, which occupies a footprint of 5x5 mm.

The new MPLAB® Starter Kit for Digital Power (DM330017), priced at $129.00 and announced today, allows customers to explore digital power conversion using Microchip’s dsPIC33 “GS” architecture in familiar power conversion topologies. The kit includes a step-up converter and a step-down converter with built-in programmable loads for each, as well as an LCD display to show voltage, current, temperature, and fault states.
It also includes a debugger/programmer with a USB interface. It features a wide range of reference designs demonstrating various conversion applications and digital power topologies, such as the recently released 'Platinum-rated 720W AC-DC' and 'Enhanced Solar Microinverter' reference designs.
The entire catalog of Microchip standard development tools supports the dsPIC33FJ09GS302 family, including the MPLAB® Integrated Development Environment.
All five models in the dsPIC33FJ09GS302 family are now available for samples and volume production. The dsPIC33FJ06GS001 and dsPIC33FJ06GS101A are available in 18-pin SPDIP and SOIC packages, as well as 20-pin SSOP. The dsPIC33FJ06GS102A, dsPIC33FJ06GS202A, and dsPIC33FJ09GS302 are available in 28-pin SOIC, SSOP, SPDIP, and QFN packages, as well as 36-pin VTLA.
