Designed for power supplies with significant constraints on power consumption, dimensions, and thermal performance, the new InnoSwitch™3 family of offline CV/CC (constant current/voltage) reverse switching ICs achieves an efficiency of up to 94%, unique in its class, across a wide range of line and load conditions. This family can also reduce power losses by 25% more than the previous generation, enabling the development of small, lightweight power supplies that do not require heatsinks but can handle up to 65 W of power.

The InnoSwitch3 IC family is available in three series optimized for specific applications. The first series is the CE (External Current) series, which offers precise CC/CV regulation with an external output current detector for optimal design flexibility. It is intended for small, single-voltage chargers and adapters in IoT and consumer applications. The CP (Constant Power) series is ideal for USB power delivery (PD) applications and is suitable for fast charging and other uses requiring dynamic output voltage, such as charging mobile phones and laptop adapters. The third series is the EP (Embedded Power) series, which includes the highest voltage-rated MOSFET, supporting up to 725 V. Targeted at industrial applications and equipment, this series provides comprehensive line and load protection with optimal cross-regulation for multiple outputs.

All devices utilize Power Integrations' FluxLink™ isolated digital communications technology, but also incorporate synchronous rectification, quasi-resonant switching, and a precise feedback detector on the secondary side and control circuitry. Designers can use these devices to produce highly efficient and reliable power supply circuits without optocouplers. The ICs also incorporate a wide selection of protection features, including lossless line over- and undervoltage protection, output overvoltage protection, overpower protection, overcurrent and overtemperature protection, as well as output rectifier short-circuit protection.

Furthermore, by utilizing the InSOP-24 package, the InnoSwitch 3 family provides a low-profile, thermally efficient solution. An extended creepage distance of 11.5 mm between the primary and secondary sides offers robustness and high reliability. Finally, an online selection tool allows designers to customize the device's features to meet their specific design requirements.
