The LAN7430 integrates power, clocks, and an Ethernet physical layer interface, while the LAN7431 provides an RGMII (Reduced Gigabit Media-Independent Interface) for other physical layers and other switches. LPSS L1.1 (snooze) and L1.2 (off) allow designers to reduce power consumption and improve battery life by putting high-speed circuitry into low-power mode or disconnecting it at the physical layer when not in use. When connected to a System-on-Chip (SoC) or processor as a host, the LAN7430/1 enables the host device to deliver audio, data, or video over a 10/100/1000 Ethernet network.

The connection to the host is made using the PCIe 3.1 specification, which achieves 2.5 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) in each direction simultaneously. The LAN7431's RGMII interface allows for the integration of other data link layers into the design, such as IEEE 802.3bw-2015 (100Base-T1) for 100 Mbps and 802.3bp-2016 (1000Base-T1) over a single twisted-pair cable. It also supports Real-Time Ethernet and the IEEE 1588-2008 (PTP) and IEEE 802.1AS (gPTP) protocols. The LAN7431 offers an automotive version that exceeds the requirements of AEC-Q100 Grade 2 certification (-40°C to +105°C).

With this new product range, Microchip provides design confidence to customers using PCIe Ethernet bridges, thanks to product longevity, worldwide support, design review services for final designs, and comprehensive drivers for Linux® or Windows® operating systems. Microchip's customer-based obsolescence policy is a philosophy that helps ensure that, as long as there is demand for a product, Microchip strives to continue supplying it.

The LAN7430/1 family, a true single-chip solution, operates on a single 3.3V power supply, eliminating the need for complex and costly power management. Both devices feature a JTAG (1149.1) Test Access Port (TAP) for enhanced testing capabilities. Microchip also offers LINK MD® diagnostics based on Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) for analyzing wiring and identifying and locating common problems such as open circuits, short circuits, and impedance mismatches.

The LAN7430 and LAN7431 are supported by Microchip's free online design review service, LANCheck®, which reviews customer designs and ensures adherence to best design practices. Microchip's MPLAB® Connect software tool is supplied for programming OTP (One-Time-Programmable) memory or the optional EEPROM memory to simplify device configuration. Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certified drivers are available, as well as Linux kernel drivers for networking and PTP/gPTP synchronization. Evaluation boards (EVB-LAN7430 and EVB-LAN7431) are also available for customers.

The LAN7430 is supplied in a 48-pin QFN package and the LAN7431 is supplied in a 72-pin QFN package.
