Part of TI's SimpleLink microcontroller platform, the CC3120 Wi-Fi Internet-on-a-Chip™ device comprises a wireless network processor and power management subsystems, along with a dedicated ARM® Cortex®-M3 microcontroller. The device enables optimal network flexibility and maximum connectivity for Internet of Things (IoT) solutions across a wide range of microcontroller applications.
TI's CC3120 SimpleLink Wi-Fi Network Processor allows designers to run Wi-Fi and Internet protocols implemented in ROM, which in turn manages its dedicated ARM Cortex-M3 network processor to significantly offload the microcontroller and simplify system integration. The on-chip microcontroller helps completely offload Wi-Fi and Internet protocols from the application microcontroller, managing all the details of Wi-Fi connectivity, including identity, data, and code security, without demanding resources from the host processor. To simplify network application integration and development, the CC3120 comes with a slim, user-friendly driver that can be easily ported to most platforms and operating systems. This flexibility essentially allows a designer to connect almost any microcontroller to the IoT cloud using the CC3120.
The CC3120 is compatible with TI's SimpleLink Developer Ecosystem, which allows designers to reuse code and add any combination of devices from the portfolio to their design, using a common development environment, software development kit (SDK), and a rich set of tools. For development, Mouser also offers three development tools: the BoosterPack™ CC3120 Plug-in Module, the CC31XXEMUBOOST Advanced Emulation BoosterPack, and the CC3220SF LaunchPad™ Development Kit.
Target IoT applications for the CC3120 include cloud connectivity, internet gateways, home and building automation, appliances, access control, security systems, smart energy, industrial control, smart metering and connectivity, wireless audio, IP network sensor nodes, asset tracking, and medical devices.
