These devices, supplied in a 15mm x 15mm x 4.92mm BGA package, incorporate an inductor, DC/DC regulator, MOSFET, and supporting components. The LTM8055 operates from input voltages of 5V to 36V and delivers a charging current of up to 8A. The LTM8056 has a higher input voltage, up to 60V, and can achieve a charging current of 4A. The compact design of these devices frees up printed circuit board space in systems such as battery-powered devices, industrial controls, aircraft, and solar-powered equipment.
For battery charging or precise adjustment of the charging current, both devices allow for setting the average input and output current limits. Furthermore, the input and output current can be monitored by measuring the voltage on a signal pin. The switching frequency can be adjusted between 100kHz and 800kHz, allowing each device to be synchronized to an external clock frequency of 200kHz to 700kHz. The output voltage can be adjusted with a resistor between 1.2V and 36V (LTM8055) and between 1.2V and 48V (LTM8056).
