The converters feature integrated safety functions and enable rapid commissioning. They are connected to the controller via Profinet and allow for easy commissioning with a web server and one-button adjustment. When used in conjunction with Simotics servomotors, they enable highly dynamic movement with minimal loads as well as precise movement with medium and heavy loads. The motors are connected to the converters with a single-cable connection (OCC). Typical applications for the new drive system include packaging machines, pick-and-place handling applications, wood and ceramic processing, and digital printing.
The functional scope of the Simatic S210 focuses on highly dynamic motor axis control, while the connected controller, such as the Simatic S7-1500 or S7-1500T with its extended motion control function, takes over the positioning functions of the connected drive axes. All converter commissioning is performed using an integrated web server. The tuning function allows for automatic optimization of control parameters, taking into account the behavior of the connected mechanical parts at different dynamic levels. Integrated safety functions include Safe Torque Off (STO) and Safe Stop 1 (SS1). Both can be operated via PROFIsafe, and STO can also be operated via a terminal. Additional functions are currently under development. Together with the fast sampling and intelligent control algorithms of the Sinamics S210, a high-grade encoder system and the combination of a low inertia rotor and high overload capacity, the servomotors achieve great dynamic performance and accuracy.
When connecting Simotics S-1FK2 motors to converters using the OCC motion connection, the power, encoder signal, and brake wires are combined into a single, slim cable just 9 mm in diameter. This reduced cross-section makes the OCC cable thinner, lighter, and more flexible than previous mains cables, simplifying the wiring process. For drag chain applications, a compact single-wire connection is also available, reducing the bend radius to almost half that of conventional drag chain wires. The connection plug is robustly designed, yet rotatable and easy to operate, with a height of only 25 mm. Converter wiring is straightforward thanks to the user-friendly, self-locking plugs and easily accessible, removable push-in terminals on the front panel.
