The InvenSense ICP-10100 single-axis pressure sensor achieves the industry's lowest pressure noise of 0.4 Pa RMS and the lowest power consumption of 1.3 μA at 1 Hz. This small MEMS sensor measures extremely small pressure differences of ±1 Pa, enabling the device to detect altitude changes of less than 5 cm. The sensor offers a total operating pressure range of 30 to 110 kPa and ensures excellent temperature stability with a temperature coefficient of ±0.5 Pa per degree Celsius.
The pressure sensor has an embedded temperature sensor and a 400 kHz I2C bus for communication. In addition to the device's low-power mode of 1.3 μA with a noise level of 3.2 Pa, the ICP-10100 features a low-noise mode of 0.8 Pa and consumes only 5.2 μA for high-performance applications. The small device, measuring 2 mm × 2 mm × 0.72 mm, includes an IPX8-rated housing, making it waterproof to a depth of 1.5 m for 30 minutes.
For evaluation, the sensor is compatible with the DK-10100 SmartMotion® platform development kit. The kit is based on a Microchip G55 microcontroller and comes with the necessary software, including InvenSense MotionLink, a GUI-based development tool, and embedded Motion Drivers (eMDs) for the ICP-10100. The DK-10100 includes an onboard embedded debugger, eliminating the need for external tools to program or debug the G55 microcontroller.
The combination of high precision, low power, temperature stability, and waterproofing in a small space allows for better activity identification, indoor and outdoor mobile navigation, altitude hold in drones, and longer battery life for always-on motion detection applications.
