Adopting a smart grid system improves the accuracy of energy use and distribution control and enables bidirectional communication between the system and users. This decentralized approach reintroduces electricity from multiple sources, recycling renewable energy back into the smart grid. These innovations are expected to support the charging infrastructure for 50% of all passenger vehicles, power the electricity needs of a growing global population, and drive a more resilient and sustainable future. At this EIT, engineers will explore the advantages and challenges of transitioning to a smart grid system, the necessary hardware, and the market potential of this technology.
