These devices are typically based on low-power ARM® processors and increasingly demand enhanced features and memory capabilities - without the overhead controller costs that usually accompany them.

The latest updates to the e•MMC electrical standards defined by the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association have opened up a whole list of features that support better on-demand functionality for smartphone and mobile device users.

The new standards, which can be found here: http://www.jedec.org/standards-documents/results/jesd84-b51, define Command Queuing for e•MMC memory ICs for the first time. Command Queuing will allow memory chips to analyze commands before executing them.

Another change that will improve memory speed will be an improvement to the HS400 interface mode defined in version 5.0 called Enhanced Mode Strobe (ESM)
