Advanced power devices have a tremendous impact on energy savings across all types of power systems, making them a vital element in the technologies of the future. Leading the development in all areas of Si and SiC (silicon carbide) power products and leveraging its comprehensive supply switching capabilities at its facilities, ROHM will be showcasing its latest power devices.
1. 3rd Generation SiC Schottky Barrier Diodes (SBDs) for Improved Performance and Reliability.
Continuously expanding its portfolio, ROHM will introduce its new 3rd generation SiC SBDs for improved performance. The first of its kind has a power rating of 650 V / 6, 8, 10 A and comes in a TO220AC package. They achieve the lowest VF and IR across the entire temperature range of all SiC SBDs available on the market. In addition, they have a high surge current capability, suitable for power supply applications. Because this 3rd generation incorporates a PN junction structure along with a Schottky Barrier, durability in bipolar operation is also guaranteed. These characteristics contribute to the ongoing trend of high efficiency, high power density, and very robust designs.
2. 3rd Generation 1200V/180A Full SiC Module for More Efficient High-Frequency Operation:
ROHM has pioneered commercial power modules equipped with SiC MOSFETs and SiC SBDs. ROHM will introduce its new 1200V/180A SiC power module, the BSM180D12P3C007. This half-bridge SiC module integrates trench-type SiC MOSFETs and embedded SiC SBDs in the same space, similar to previous modules. Based on the advanced UMOS structure, the new switching module achieves 77% lower losses than conventional IGBT modules and 42% lower switching losses than SiC modules using the SiC-DMOS structure. This not only enables high-frequency operation but also allows for smaller cooling systems and peripheral components, resulting in greater energy savings and miniaturization of the final product.
3. Arduino Shield for Stepper Motors: Easier Designs in Shorter Timescales.
To support the evaluation of its motor drivers and to support, facilitate, and accelerate customer designs, ROHM is launching an Arduino-based Evaluation Kit (EVK). Designed as a shield that connects directly to the main Arduino board, this EVK allows engineers to quickly evaluate and prototype stepper motor systems. It comes in 15 variants for ROHM's different stepper motor driver ICs, from standard and micro-stepping to low and high voltage. This comprehensive solution covers supply voltages from 8V to 42V, allows up to 2.5A per phase, and supports micro-stepping and single- or multi-phase control of one or two stepper motors. The easily adaptable EVK comes with a software library and example programs to facilitate a rapid learning curve.
