3886col-wThe LTC3886 is ideal for harsh environments requiring high input voltage, such as those commonly found in factory automation, industrial, medical, communications, and aviation applications.
The LTC3886 can be configured for single or dual output and is stackable up to 6 phases to support a current load of up to 120A. An interleaved clock setting for 2, 3, 4, or 6 phases reduces input and output ripple, thereby decreasing input and output capacitance. This device is supported by the LTpowerPlay™ software development tool with a graphical user interface (GUI). Its I2C-
based serial interface allows system designers and remote operators to control and monitor the status and consumption of a power system. The ability to digitally change power supply parameters reduces time to market and downtime by eliminating what would normally require hardware, circuit, or system BOM modifications. The LTC3886 simplifies system characterization, optimizing data extraction during prototype manufacturing, implementation, and field operation.

In addition to supplying power to a load point, the LTC3886 provides configuration and telemetry monitoring capabilities for power and power management parameters via PMBus – a standard digital serial interface protocol based on I²C.
The LTC3886's two-wire serial interface allows outputs to be adjusted, fine-tuned, and boosted or cut off with programmable slopes and sequenced delay times. Input and output voltages, as well as input and output temperature and currents, are readable. The device consists of dual analog control loops, precision mixed-signal circuitry, and EEPROM, and is housed in a 7mm x 8mm QFN-52 package.
To evaluate the LTC3886's performance, the LTpowerPlay GUI is available as a free download. USB-to-PMBus converters and demonstration kits are also available. With a maximum DC output error of ±0.5% over temperature, current reading accuracy of ±1.5%, a 16-bit Delta-Sigma ADC, and integrated EEPROM, the LTC3886 combines best-in-class analog switching regulator performance with precise mixed-signal data acquisition. Channels can efficiently share current under both steady-state and transient conditions. During commissioning, output voltages, switching frequency, and channel phase assignment can be programmed via resistors or downloaded from the internal EEPROM. The LTC3886's junction operating temperature ranges from -40°C to 125°C.
