The InnoSwitch-EP 900 V integrated circuits are highly efficient, typically 85% of a dual 18 W output, eliminating heat sinks and allowing for highly compact power supply implementations.
According to David Chen, director of applications engineering at Power Integrations: "High-voltage system designers often have megawatts of power at their disposal, from which they may need to extract a few milliwatts to power a low-voltage microprocessor system, or a few tens of watts for inverter gate drivers. The new 900V InnoSwitch-EP devices dramatically simplify the design of highly reliable, robust power supplies that operate at commonly available industrial voltages.".
Launched last year, Power Integrations' InnoSwitch-EP IC family employs innovative FluxLink™ magneto-inductive safety technology and includes synchronous rectification with precise secondary-side regulation, resulting in highly efficient and reliable power supply circuits that do not require an optical coupler. The new InnoSwitch-EP 900V ICs feature an integrated 900V power MOSFET that provides significant operating margin for 450VAC industrial systems, increasing reliability and lifespan. Operating continuously with an input voltage up to 450VAC, an optional UV/OV line protection layer prevents the IC from switching and protects the circuit up to 650VAC. This flexibility is a major advantage for power supply designers who need to adapt to all kinds of conditions worldwide.
The InnoSwitch-EP 900 V ICs improve power supply reliability by reducing the bill of materials to a minimum size and eliminating optocouplers that degrade over time. The devices exceed all international energy efficiency standards, such as ENERGY STAR®, the California Energy Commission and European Union Code of Conduct (CoC), the ErP Directive, and U.S. Department of Energy standards. The devices are UL1577 and TUV (EN60950) safety listed and compliant with EN61000-4-8 (100 A/m) and EN61000-4-9 (1000 A/m).
Power Integrations introduces a 900V IC belonging to its InnoSwitch™-EP family of off-line CV/DC flyback switching ICs. The new devices target high-voltage DC and three-phase power supplies found in industrial, motor control, metering, and renewable energy applications, as well as standard grid voltage applications where continuous operation is required during line saturation and overvoltage.
