Inverter control is used to efficiently drive the motors of electric and hybrid vehicles. Because the control and drive functions operate at different voltages, they must be isolated from each other using a device such as a photocoupler. Toshiba's TB9150FNG is a high-performance, compact, and versatile IGBT gate pre-driver IC that can address this issue while providing the necessary protection functionality.

The TB9150FNG integrates a photocoupler that ensures high-level isolation between the control (primary side) and the drive (secondary side). It also incorporates a high-precision IGBT temperature sensing function, a reverse transformer driver, and a short-circuit detection function (current-direction and DESAT2 monitor) that contribute to system size reduction.

Supplied in an SSOP48 package, the TB9150FNG measures only 10.4 mm x 12.5 mm x 2.0 mm. Its operating temperature range is -40 °C to 125 °C.

Main Features
1. Optical Isolation Function
Electrical isolation and high withstand voltage isolation of 2500Vrms (AC, one minute) are achieved by means of a built-in photocoupler for communication between the primary and secondary sides. This achieves perfect isolation, ensuring high tolerance to exogenous noise, such as that caused by electromagnetic susceptibility.

2. High-Precision Temperature Sensing Function:
The new IC features a constant current source for a temperature-sensing diode integrated into the IGBT and the A/D converter. It measures the voltage across the temperature-sensing diode with high precision, enabling accurate temperature calculations. Performance can be optimized by controlling the operating temperature of the IGBT, contributing to both IGBT size reduction and improved fuel efficiency in electric and hybrid vehicles.

3. Integrated flyback transformer control circuit for the power supply.
A flyback transformer control circuit on the primary side supplies power to the secondary side while maintaining isolation. It also has a soft-start function that ensures proper startup when power is applied to the circuit, preventing current overload.

4. Several integrated fault detection and protection circuits.
The IGBT's power supply, output, current, and voltage are all monitored. Information about any detected faults is transferred to the main controller via an SPI interface. A dedicated circuit provides protection against any abnormality that could potentially destroy the IC and the IGBT.

5. Based on AEC-Q100 standards
