The new PQFN4x4 package (a modified 16-pin MLPQ) has a footprint of only 16 mm² to accommodate many of the high-voltage, high-performance IR gate control ICs that previously required packages the size of a wide-frame SOIC-16, while also offering a footprint up to 85 percent smaller. Creepage and clearance distance requirements have been taken into account in the design of the new package to enable reliable designs at voltages up to 600 V.

The PQFN4x4 package, characterized by its low profile of less than 1 mm, is compatible with existing surface mounting techniques, and is compliant with MSL2 and RoHS.

International Rectifier's HVIC technology integrates N-channel and P-channel LDMOS circuitry into a single intelligent driver IC. These ICs accept a low-voltage input and provide gate control and protection functions for high-voltage power conditioning applications. Furthermore, these monolithic HVICs offer integrated functions, simplify circuit design, and reduce overall cost. This includes the option of using a low-cost self-lifting power supply, eliminating the need for the large and expensive auxiliary power supplies typically required by discrete optocoupler-based or transformer-based designs.
