Currently, many low-voltage systems rely on temperature to estimate system health and reliability. Traditional architectures require a series of filters, a precise voltage reference, and a current source, resulting in a complex conversion scheme prone to inaccuracies if not carefully designed. The LTC2997 is a simple temperature management solution that measures the temperature of a remote diode with an accuracy of ±1°C or a local temperature with an accuracy of ±1.5°C, and generates a voltage proportional to the absolute temperature. The LTC2997 provides a very low-power, space-saving temperature management solution.

The simplicity, precision, and low power consumption of the LTC2997 make it suitable for numerous applications in thermal control of systems, computers, network servers, and more.

Two current sensing inputs can be configured to measure either a local or remote temperature. An integrated algorithm cancels errors due to series sensing resistance when measuring diode or transistor voltages. A 1.8 V output voltage reference is also available, which can be shared with an external ADC or used to generate temperature threshold voltages for comparison with the VPTAT output.
The LTC2997 is available in commercial, industrial, and automotive versions for operation in the temperature ranges of 0°C to 70°C, -40°C to 85°C, and -40°C to 125°C, respectively. It is supplied in a 6-pin, 2 mm x 3 mm, RoHS-compliant DFN package.
