CryptoAuthentication™ and CryptoAutomotive™, which meet the demanding specifications for secure key storage and certified algorithms of the JIL (Joint Interpretation Library) Common Criteria compliant with FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard).

This range of secure authentication devices makes it easier for product developers targeting new segments and applications to implement trusted authentication to prevent counterfeiting, improve quality control, and protect the user experience. With counterfeiting becoming increasingly common across numerous sectors, the need to incorporate embedded trust into many designs is paramount.

The devices are supported by Trust Platform Design Suite, a software tool used to integrate Microchip's secure key delivery service into these integrated circuits. This scalable service allows for the implementation of cryptographic assets in projects of virtually any size, from dozens of devices to large-scale deployments in various sectors, such as disposable consumer and medical products, automotive and industrial accessories, wireless charging, and data centers.

“Cost-sensitive application designers who might have limited or insecure authentication can now add this critical functionality thanks to the new additions to our security portfolio,” said Nuri Dagdeviren, corporate vice president of Microchip’s Secure Computing business unit. “Microchip continues to deliver on its commitment to developing the most advanced, cost-optimized, and versatile security products for a wide range of end applications.”.

Microchip has added five new products to its existing catalog of hardware-based secure storage CryptoAuthentication integrated circuits, designed to protect secret keys from unauthorized attackers:

  • ECC204: ECC-P256 signature and HMAC (Hash-based Message Authentication Code)
  • ECC206: two-pin parasitic power supply, ECC-P256 signature, and HMAC
  • SHA104: client SHA256 MAC
  • SHA105: host SHA256 CheckMAC
  • SHA106: Two-pin parasitic feed and SHA256 MAC client

The sixth new device is designed for the automotive market. The ECC-signed and HMAC-signed TA010 is an AEC-Q100 Grade 1 certified CryptoAutomotive integrated circuit that allows OEMs to implement secure authentication into their designs without costly modifications and meets the security requirements for future generations of their vehicles.

Microchip's security products are compatible with any microprocessor or microcontroller and can be used as auxiliary devices with AVR® microcontrollers as well as with Microchip's Arm® core-based microprocessors and microcontrollers . These secure authentication integrated circuits offer customers a versatile solution that adapts to evolving industry standards and practices.

Development tools

Microchip's new secure authentication integrated circuits are supported by Trust Platform Design Suite,  MPLAB®CryptoAuthLib X Integrated Development Environment (IDE), evaluation cards for select products, and the library.
