They are specified to work between -40 and 125 °C and are available in space-saving packages, with a size as small as a QFN of only 4 mm x 4 mm, making them ideal for industrial and consumer applications such as power supply tuning and calibration, reference point and process control, closed-loop servo control, PC peripherals, portable instrumentation, offset tuning in instrumentation and signal conditioning.
Unlike mechanical potentiometers, the MCP434X/436X devices can be controlled digitally via an SPI interface. This eliminates the need for human interaction, increasing system accuracy, manufacturing flexibility and throughput while lowering manufacturing costs. Digital control also provides greater system flexibility than mechanical control. Non-volatile memory allows the digital potentiometers to retain their settings when power is disconnected, and their low static current consumption of only 5 µA (max.) contributes to extended battery life. The
MCP4341/2 digital potentiometers are available in 14- and 20-pin TSSOP and 4 mm x 4 mm QFN packages. The MCP4361/2 digital potentiometers are also available in 14- and 20-pin TSSOP and 4 mm x 4 mm QFN packages.
