In recent years, the demand for advanced control in various industrial and consumer electronics applications has increased. Therefore, accurate detection of application-relevant parameters such as temperature, humidity, vibration, pressure, and flow rate is becoming increasingly necessary. Operational amplifiers, whose primary function is to amplify sensor signals for subsequent detection and/or analog-to-digital conversion, are a fundamental component in the signal chain, significantly impacting both accuracy and power consumption. ROHM is developing operational amplifiers that meet the dual requirement of high accuracy and low current consumption. By further refining the circuit design based on the original Nano Energy™ technology, ROHM is now able to offer an operational amplifier with the lowest current consumption on the market.

The LMR1901YG-M leverages original ultra-low power technology that completely suppresses current rise caused by temperature and voltage changes, reducing current consumption to just 160 nA (Typ) – approximately 38% less than that of general-purpose low-power operational amplifiers. This not only extends the life of internally battery-powered applications, such as electronic shelf labels, but also helps extend the operating time of smartphones and other devices equipped with rechargeable batteries. At the same time, this low current consumption remains constant across the temperature range of -40°C to +105°C, enabling stable low-power operation, even in environments with fluctuating ambient temperatures, such as fire alarms and environmental sensors.

Other performance improvements include a 45% reduction in input balance voltage to just 0.55 mV (Ta max = 25°C) compared to general-purpose low-current op-amps, while ensuring a maximum input balance voltage temperature drift of 7 V/°C. This enables high-precision amplification of sensor signals. Capable of operating with a nominal voltage of 1.7 V to 5.5 V and offering rail-to-rail input/output, the LMR1901YG-M is suitable for a wide variety of applications in the industrial and consumer equipment markets. ROHM’s new op-amp also meets the AEC-Q100 automotive reliability standard, ensuring stable operation even under harsh conditions, such as in vehicle cabins, without compromising functionality.

In addition to having several technical documents necessary for circuit design and SPICE models for simulation (available free of charge on the ROHM website), the LMR1901YG-M can be used with the ROHM Solution Simulator to accelerate time to market.

In the future, ROHM will continue its efforts to further reduce the power consumption of operational amplifiers using its own ultra-low power technology. Furthermore, ROHM aims to improve the performance of its operational amplifier ranges by reducing noise and mismatch, increasing energy efficiency, and expanding the supply voltage range, while also contributing to solving societal problems through more precise application control.

What is Nano Energy™ technology?
Nano Energy™ refers to ROHM's patented ultra-low current consumption technology that achieves current consumption on the order of nanoamps (nA) by combining advanced analog technologies, covering circuit design, layout, and processes, using ROHM's vertically integrated production system.
This not only extends the runtime of battery-powered IoT and mobile devices but also improves efficiency in industrial and automotive equipment, where increased energy consumption is a critical issue.
