As a result, Nexperia's NEH2000BY will enable the development of smaller, more environmentally friendly, self-powered electronic devices. Furthermore, this energy harvesting solution can help mitigate the environmental impact of the billions of batteries produced and discarded each year.

The Nexperia PMIC NEH2000BY greatly simplifies the design of energy harvesting solutions that can be up to 20 times smaller than competing offerings and require no manual optimization for individual applications. Furthermore, the PMIC is designed without inductors, which simplifies printed circuit board design and significantly reduces the bill of materials and board size, with a mounting area of just 12 mm².

To achieve maximum conversion efficiency, energy harvesting solutions must be able to adapt to fluctuations in the ambient energy source. The NEH2000BY utilizes Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), an adaptive algorithm that optimizes how it transfers harvested energy to achieve an optimal average conversion efficiency of up to 80%. This unique MPPT algorithm combines speed and accuracy, allowing the PMIC to adapt to environmental changes in less than one second. This is significantly faster than any other solution currently available and maximizes the amount of energy captured over the course of a day, greatly expanding the range of applications. Furthermore, thanks to its self-optimizing function and ability to operate autonomously without pre-programming, the NEH2000BY makes it easy for designers to power devices with ambient energy.

Nexperia's energy harvesting solutions enable the cost-effective capture of energy from various environmental sources in applications that consume up to several milliwatts of power, including wireless IoT nodes, wearable smart tags, and electronic shelf labels.

Dan Jensen, General Manager of Nexperia's Analog and Logic Integrated Circuits Business Group, adds: "The NEH2000BY is cost-effective, easy to use, and compact, enabling the adoption of energy harvesting in a wide range of use cases. By eliminating the need to change batteries in these applications, the NEH2000BY will significantly reduce the amount of hazardous waste produced, with enormous environmental benefits."

The NEH2000BY is available in a 16-pin, 3 mm × 3 mm QFN package, and operates between -40 °C and +85 °C.
