The SAM R30 SiP offers design flexibility and proven reliability in a small package, making it ideal for connected homes, smart cities, and industrial applications.

In response to the growing demand for battery-powered wireless systems, the SAM R30 addresses the extremely power-sensitive needs of these markets with features that extend battery life for several years. The SiP incorporates the SAM L21 microcontroller, which leverages the Cortex® M0+ architecture, the most energy-efficient among ARM®-based architectures. The SAM R30 features ultra-low-power sleep modes, activated via serial communication or GPIO (General-Purpose Input/Output) with a current draw of only 500 nA.

The SAM R30 SiP operates in the 769-935 MHz range and offers developers the flexibility to deploy point-to-point, star, or mesh networks. Microchip is helping developers immediately utilize the free MiWi™ protocol stack for point-to-point/star networks. Mesh network capabilities will be available later this year. Nodes equipped with the SiP can be deployed up to one kilometer apart and can double their range in a star topology. When used in a mesh network, the SAM R30 provides large, reliable coverage for applications such as street lighting or wind and solar farms.

Developers can create prototypes immediately with the ATSAMR30-XPRO development board, priced at $65. This handy development board with a USB interface is supported by the Atmel Studio 7 software development kit.

The SAM R30 SiP is supplied in two QFN packages for samples or bulk purchases for production.

• The ATSAMR30E18 in a 32QFN package
• The ATSAMR30G18 in a 48QFN package
