Intel's wireless technology updates include:
- The Intel XMM 8000 Series Modems: Intel's commercial 5G multimode modems, operating in sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave spectrum bands globally. This series will enable a wide range of devices to connect to 5G networks—from PCs and phones to fixed and wireless customer premises equipment (CPE), and even in vehicles. -
The Intel® XMM™ 8060 Modem: Intel's first commercial 5G modem, capable of providing multimode support for both standalone and non-standalone 5G NR technologies, as well as several existing modems based on 2G, 3G (including CDMA), and 4G technologies. The Intel XMM 8060 modem is expected to begin shipping in commercial customer devices in mid-2019, accelerating the deployment of 5G-ready devices ahead of the anticipated widespread rollout of 5G networks in 2020.
The Intel XMM 7660 modem, Intel's latest LTE modem, offers Cat-19 performance and supports speeds up to 1.6 gigabits per second. This powerful LTE modem provides advanced multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), carrier aggregation, and broad frequency band support, and will also begin shipping in commercial devices in 2019.
Intel is also helping to set the pace for the market with the Intel® 5G Modem. Announced at CES 2017, Intel’s first 5G solution is already being used to successfully make calls over the 28GHz frequency band. Along with the Intel® Mobile Trial Platform, Intel’s technology is already a central component in dozens of trials conducted worldwide, providing Intel and the industry with valuable insights into the technologies that will make the 5G-based future a reality. As we incorporate 5G technology, Wi-Fi will play an increasingly important role in mobile networks. Intel will continue to lead in Wi-Fi with the upcoming commercialization of gigabit Wi-Fi and plans to offer the next generation of Wi-Fi, 802.11ax, starting in 2018.
