Hall-effect-sensor-wThanks to Melexis' proprietary design, the MLX91208 ensures consistent accuracy by exhibiting a high degree of temperature stability (with a typical temperature drift of ±150 ppm/°C) and a long operating life.

The MLX91208's transfer characteristics are fully adjustable, with parameters such as sensitivity, gain, and offset easily stored in the built-in EEPROM. Calibration is performed using the company's well-established PTC (Programming Through Connector) protocol, which modulates the supply voltage. Since it is offered in conjunction with the need for an additional pin for programming, highly efficient production workflows can be easily achieved.

Operating within a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C, the MLX91208 devices are well-suited for precise DC and AC current measurements at frequencies up to 200 kHz. The sensors incorporate Melexis' patented Triaxis® technology, offering the highest sensitivity on the market thanks to an integrated magnetic concentrator (IMC) layer deposited on the semiconductor die. Current sensing systems based on the MLX91208 series are expected to deliver accuracy levels exceeding ±0.5% at room temperature or ±2% at the extremes of the specified temperature range.

Supplied in standard SO-8 packages, these ICs provide engineers with a way to implement extremely compact and highly optimized sensing solutions that leverage their powerful galvanic isolation. Two versions are available: the MLX91208CAL, which features a large IMC layer for detecting very weak magnetic fields (100mV/mT to 700mV/mT), and the MLX91208CAH for detecting medium-strength fields (50mV/mT to 300mV/mT). Among the main applications of these devices are the monitoring of battery and motor current in automobiles (hybrid, electric and mild hybrid vehicles) as well as in renewable energy applications (solar power converters, etc.).
