Using the FIPS 180 SHA-256-based authentication algorithm, the DS28C22 combines strong cryptographic authentication, bidirectional, secure challenge-response authentication, and small message encryption. Through bidirectional authentication, the host and peripheral authenticate each other, protecting the IP address on the peripheral from an inauthentic host attempting to modify its operation. The DS28C22 enables unparalleled security for many applications, including peripherals/disposables, sensors, network equipment, IP licenses, and industrial applications such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
