The AEC-Q100 compliant MCP6C02 amplifier is available in Grade 1, 6-pin SOT-23 packages and Grade 0, 8-pin VDFN 3x3 packages. The VDFN package, with a maximum offset error of only 12 µV, offers the lowest offset voltage for a Grade 0 high-side current sensing amplifier. This best-in-class offset error, valid over a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C, allows for the use of lower shunt resistors while maintaining high measurement resolution. This results in a more accurate and power-efficient solution for measuring current in applications exposed to extreme temperatures, such as the motor in a vehicle's pump. Furthermore, the VDFN package is processed with wettable-edge metallization, enabling visual inspection of the solder joints and eliminating the need for X-ray scanning required by traditional DFN packages.
Microchip's MCP6C02 and MCP6C04 devices also incorporate an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter and a zero-drift architecture. The EMI filter helps increase protection against high-frequency electrical interference from sources such as wireless access points and radio frequencies, while the self-correcting architecture provides greater accuracy in current measurement. All of these features enable developers to create higher-performance solutions for various applications, such as creating a current-controlled feedback loop for a power supply or motor, monitoring and charging batteries, or monitoring current levels for safety purposes.

Microchip's new ADM01104 evaluation board is designed for the MCP6C02 and MCP6C04 high-side current-sensing amplifiers, and is compatible with each device in terms of pinout, package, and functionality. The evaluation board incorporates appropriate filters and input pin protection to prevent exposure to high voltages and currents. By offering multiple reference voltage options, it allows for rapid evaluation of the device in both unidirectional and bidirectional operating modes.
