The device is also used in robotic systems, bicycles, and electric scooters.

In addition to being able to handle up to 1,000 W with a 12 V power supply, the MLX81346 is uniquely positioned to reach 2,000 W with a 48 V power supply. Its high-voltage capabilities stem from the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology on which it is based.

The MLX81346 features an integrated 16-bit microcontroller unit (MCU), 64 KB of flash memory, a LIN software stack, and a LIN interface (for connecting to the vehicle's network infrastructure). It has 12 GPIOs, including 3 high-voltage I/O, 2 UARTs, SPI, and I2C. Customers can perform fast end-of-line programming via the LIN pin with support from third-party software recommended by Melexis.

The MLX81346 occupies minimal board space. It is available in 32-pin (5 mm x 5 mm) QFN or 48-pin (7 mm x 7 mm) TQFP48 packages. This compact pre-controller has been developed as an SEooC (Safety Out of Context) element with ASIL B capability. It supports an operating temperature range of -40°C to 150°C and incorporates all essential circuit protection functions.

“The MLX8146 completes our third generation of embedded controllers. The family now includes the LIN MLX81330 and MLX81332 controllers for 1–10 W applications, and the LIN MLX81340, MLX81344, and MLX81346 pre-controllers for 10–2000 W applications,” says Marc Lambrechts, product line manager for embedded motor controllers. “With the MLX81346, Melexis is the first company to bring to market a fully embedded 48 V System-on-Chip (SoC) pre-controller. It helps our customers in the automotive and robotics sectors develop compact solutions.”
